Algae Biodiesel

Way back in 1912, Dr. Rudolf Diesel remarked “The use of vegetable oil as fuel might seem of no importance in our times. However, such products can gain importance in the course of time and reach an equal status compared with today's petroleum and these coal-tar products”, which stands true today.

In the wake to look for alternative energy, researches all over the world are trying their hands hard at creating more and more energy alternatives. Algae is one of them. Today, algae are being used at a wide scale to produce oil from it. Microalgalroute to biodiesel is a potential alternative to vegetable oil and overall economics of the process needs improvement to be a competitive substitute to petrodiesel.

In the beginning, there were algae, but there was no oil. Then, from algae came oil. Now, the algae are still there, but oil is fast depleting. In the future, there will be no oil, but there will still be algae. So it makes complete sense to explore if we can again get oil from algae and that is exactly what the scientists are trying to do – to explore the potential of getting oil from Algae Biodiesel.

Algae consume carbon dioxide as they grow, so they could be used to capture CO2 from power stations and other industrial plants that would otherwise go into the atmosphere. Algae has a rapid growth rate and certain species of algae can be harvested daily. Algae biofuel contains no sulphur,  is non-toxic and is highly bio-degradable. And thus, does not harm the environment at all.

Various factors like selected Algal strain, light conditions, the temperature, water flow rate, supply of carbon dioxide, minerals and vitamins in the water, etc can collectively determine the growth rate of the algae. Selection of Algal strain remains another very important criteria. Some algae naturally manufacture hydrocarbons that are suitable as high energy fuels. Botrycoccusbraunii, a common species, can contain more than 50% oil, mostly in the form of hydrocarbons. Algae biodiesel is carbon neutral that ensures no net accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Looking at the various benefits of Algae-Biodiesel we can certainly, imagine a healthy environment for our future generations to come and provide them with a natural source of energy formation.

Rain Water Harvesting

Demand for water is growing in most cities as every urban citizen requires almost double the amount of water than a rural citizen. Moreover, India is rapidly urbanizing. Urban population in India has grown almost five times in five decades from (62.44 million) in 1951   to (286.08) in 2001. Not long ago, most of our cities were self-sufficient in meeting their water needs from the extensive urban water bodies to supply water to citizens. Today these water bodies have completely disappeared. Municipalities have been stretched to their limits to find water for the growing urban populations. Groundwater is being extracted by the government as well as the private parties. The term rainwater harvesting is being frequently used these days, however, the concept of water harvesting is not new for India. Water harvesting techniques had been evolved and developed centuries ago. System of collecting rainwater and conserving for future needs has traditionally been practiced in India. The

Blue Crete Cement - Innovative Cement Technology

After years of research scientists have invented a new type of cement that is a cross breed of Geo-Polymer and Nano-Ceramic cement. Geo-Blue Crete is a complete low carbon alternative that looks, acts and works like Portland cement but has three times the compression and tensile strengths of Portland cement. It can be distributed in the same way, with the same equipment, at a low manufacturing cost. This new age cement is a one-part system that only requires a simple paddle mixing of its powdered chemical formula at ambient temperatures. The manufacturing process is not dependent on fossil fuels or large kilns. However, it's delivery system remains the same as OPC and the product itself results in a high-performance concrete at 6000 psi and over. It is water retardant, acid retardant, discourages the oxidation of rebar, and has a near-zero coefficient of expansion, which makes it excellent in below-freezing temperatures as well as in tropical regions. It does not trans
